A Stop Motion Animation Tutorial:
This is for everyone who would like to make movies, but haven't yet. Well, so far I've found two different ways, but here are some things you'll need:
Microphone:
A good microphone will be needed to narrate your lines. We originally got one from logitech, but it breaks easily. Try finding a metal one.
Camera:
A good camera is also required. Best for this tutorial would be a webcam. Ours is the Logitech Pro 9000. Any camera though, will do, as long as the photos can be placed on the computer
Computer:
Any computer will work, but you'll need at least 512 MB of RAM, and 2 GB of free space for your movies.
Editor:
Something to add effects and put together your movie. For Windows: WMM, For Mac: imovie. (I know this from something else.)
There are two ways, the klutz (it doesn't mean you're going to be a klutz at stop-motion) way, or the NR-Productions way.
Klutz:
The Klutz way is cheaper. Going to klutz.com, you buy their animation book. You also buy SAM Animation, which is a animator and editor all in one. You can also use the free demo. You start making your movies quickly with your camera, add effects and music, and you're done! Their animation book comes with some instructions on how to make movies.
NR-Productions:
Going to NR-Productions.com, you buy their sma package for $70. This package contains a decent camera, a complete guide that is extremely useful for animation, a cd which contains a variety of effects and sounds, as well as some movies. If you buy the package from Timberdoodle, you can get a free stikfa (early animation figure) with it. I recommend this one over the klutz way. Unfortunately, the camera is not extremely good, and if you are seriously considering moviemaking, I would get a better camera. The one that is rated the best for stop motion animation is the logitech pro 9000, but it costs $80. For early films, just use the camera that comes with this set. Its anasazi SMA is a competent program that animates rather well.
But what if I want to do it for free? Is there a better way?
Yes. Check out the VirtualDubMod post on the Tips & Tricks page. Another program called MonkeyJam is also a popular free animator. The anasazi animator is free, but you have to have a webcam.
